Anita Louise Pace grew up in the Los Angeles area by parents of Sicilian heritage. She studied Social Welfare at California State University Northridge with the intention of becoming a therapist. But although she earned a Bachelor's Degree, Anita never worked in her chosen field because of an anxiety illness called Panic Disorder. It had begun at age 13 and worsened to the point of her becoming severely agoraphobic in 1978 two years after graduation.

After hundreds of baby steps, including the study of scriptwriting and broadcasting, Anita created Baby Steps Press. Her intention was to edit and publish one book, an anthology entitled Write from the Heart; Lesbians Healing from Heartache. The book deals with Agoraphobia Panic Disorder and how to take babysteps in treating the problem.

As of 2000, Anita has written and/or edited 6 books that she has published under Baby Steps Press. She lives in Beaverton, Oregon with her partner and five dogs.
