If You Want to Soar,
You’ve Got to Learn to Fly

Be prepared for a treat when you read this wonderful book which will take you back to the fifties and sixties as the world is seen through the eyes of a child. Cleverly con- structed, the tale is told in a first person autobiographical style as though the author had actually written the story at the time she was living it. The style is big and blocky at the beginning, gradually diminishing in size as the writer grows older. Illustrations and family photos accompany the narrative.

We learn Anita is a lesbian far into the book, and many distressing moments are inflected with her natural humor. It is a cleansing book, for both lesbians and the general public.

Author Anita Pace shows an incredible memory of growing up in her Catholic-Italian household. The publisher and editor of Write from the Heart; Lesbians Healing from Heartache, and Life Isn’t Just a Panic; Stories of Hope by Recovering Agoraphobics, Pace’s books impart compassion, understanding, and humor to the readers. Pace has a degree in Social Welfare and lives near Portland, Oregon in a home that includes five dogs.

“Anita Pace has provided a service to both ‘straight’ and ‘gay’ people by writing this book and she pulls no punches when it comes to self honesty.”
Marie Friend, Friend’s Review
